Cold Therapy

Cold therapy is a form of treatment which uses cold compresses to treat inflammation after injury or surgery.

Overview

Cold therapy is a form of treatment that occurs when ice is applied to an injured area. The cold temperature causes vasoconstriction of blood vessels surrounding the injured tissues, which decreases inflammation and swelling. It can also relieve pain and muscle spasms.

Why would my pet need cold therapy?

Cold therapy can benefit pets who have been injured or are recovering from a surgical procedure. It is most beneficial during the acute phase of inflammation, which occurs shortly after injury and recovery from surgery.

How does cold therapy work?

Cold therapy utilizes a pet-safe cold compress, much like how humans would ice an injury. The cold compress can be applied several times daily, with special care not to cause frostbite damage to the tissues.
